The step-by-step questions that you have to answer are straightforward and provide a good amount of appropriate answer choices. You also have the ability to upload up to 26 pictures into your profile. The profile does not take long to create at all, only a few minutes. You can add more about yourself in your profile to be able to attract more viewers and potential matches.

Using the Site

The Match.com website is very user friendly. At the very top of its homepage, there are different tabs: Matches, Discover, Likes, Inbox, and Events. The Matches tab provide you with potential matches you can view and communicate, if you are a paying member. The discover tabs also lists other matches but you can narrow the searches using filters. The Likes tab shows you who has liked your profile. The Inbox tab informs you of any messages you have received. However, it only allows you to view one message for free and to view other messages you must pay a subscription. When you view other matches profiles, it displays a percentage of the compatibility between you and the match.  This percentage is calculated by what both you and the match are searching for in a partner. When you view a matches’ profile you are able to see their demographical information, what they are looking for in a partner, if they have similar interests as you, and how many things the two of you have in common.

You can also see on the matches’ profile the last time they logged on or whether they are online. You can also view their profile pictures. You also have the option to start a conversation with any of your matches. Match.com also provides personalized matches every day, along with their Daily5.

There are a few things you can do and view on the free membership. However, there are a lot of things that you cannot do that require you to start a membership. Some of the features, such as being able to see your messages and replying make it a must to subscribe to fully connect with a match.  The following displays the benefits of a having a subscription vs. being a free member:

There are other features that a paid membership offers that a free membership doesn’t, such as, MatchPhone, which is a feature where Match provides a phone number for each member to be able to have voice conversations; Match Me is another feature that allows you to be on top of other members’ suggestion list who are potential matches.

Finding a Match

Match uses the information that you indicated on your profile and that other members indicated on their profiles to match them together. Match uses members’ interests and other factors to determine if they are compatible. Match also asks members questions upon the creation of their profile, to determine the type of partner each member is seeking. Match.com also provides filters to do a more in depth search on the type of match that you are looking for.

Once you find a match that you are interested in you can send them a message and begin communicating if you are a paid subscriber. The downside to this is that there is no way of telling if the match you are interested in is a paid subscriber, and you may not have a reply back if they are not a paying subscriber.

Over all, Match.com features to find a match are easy to use and maneuver. The layout and display on other match profiles are also easy to read and communicate with them, if you decide to.  Match also finds several potential matches a day for you and you have the option of skipping or liking them.

Accessibility

In addition to Match.com being available through a desktop website version, they have also developed their app, which is available through the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. The App is free to download on both platforms.  The app is also easy to use and functions just like their website. There are certain benefits that are better through their app versions than website version, such as the Match Phone feature, as users can have a voice conversation wherever they are when compared to the desktop website version. Having mobile accessibility to Match.com makes it a lot easier to communicate and find potential matches.

Safety

Match.com does its best to keep its members safe. They are vigilant of profiles that seem suspicious. They also actively screen all new profiles and encourages its members to report and block suspicious or scamming profiles. Match.com will respond to your report within 24 hours. Members are also encouraged to report profiles that show inappropriate, fake, harmful, abusive content or behaviors. You can also block profiles that have offended you, by clicking on three dots on the top right of the members profile.

Match.com also gives members the option to receive a badge if they were able to verify their Facebook accounts, email addresses, phone numbers, Twitter account, and other social media profiles. This badge helps members build credibility and trust amongst its members. Match.com also expects all of their members to follow their published Terms of Usage and Privacy Policies.

Even though Match.com does not have a verification system to authenticate the user, there are very little fraudulent profiles.  A reason for this is that communication between members only occurs if mutual members are paid subscribers.
